Irén Varsányi, as an actress of the Vígszínház, played leading and titular roles in Hungarian plays from 1902 on, including in plays by Sándor Bródy, Ferenc Molnár, Menyhért Lengyel, Dezső Szomory and Jenő Heltai. Irén Varsányi was a recipe for success because her performance, her unaffected, natural playing style always captivated the audience. In this paper, I examine how Irén Varsányi performs the femme fatale in two Dezső Szomory plays, Györgyike, Dear Child (1912) and Bella (1913).
