Abstract:

Appreciation of the stage dramaturg in the Hungarian theatre system in Romania is a rare experience. When working at Szigligeti Theatre in Nagyvárad, I had the privilege to experience trust and a caring welcome. Written and directed by Gianina Cărbunariu, our performance, Magyarosaurus Dacus, premiered in February 2023 and handled issues regarding the life and work of the late Franz Nopcsa, palaeontologist living in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. In a research-based rehearsal process, Cărbunariu created a metatheatrical world, constructed by a discoursive dramaturgy. This way the different perspectives on Nopcsa’s nationality, sexual orientation, and political identity become equally represented, and the tension of the dissensus prevails.
