The paper attempts to reveal the trends of Romani representation in the dramatic literature of a Hungarian century, where this representation was centred on distinctive traits accepted as true by the majority of society. By presenting a number of such cases, and analysing a remarkable exception, we gain an overarching picture of the representation of Romani people by the non-Romani majority.
