The Inevitability of Radicality. Viktor Bodó’s Stage Adaptations of Kafka’s Novels in Hungary
Abstract:
In my essay, I conduct a comparative analysis of Viktor Bodó’s two Kafka adaptations, Ledarálnakeltűntem and A kastély, juxtaposing both with the novels, The Trial and The Castle, which serve as reference points. I delve into the relationship between the novels and the performances, and I also emphasise the crucial role of the differences. My aim is twofold: to demonstrate that the stage adaptability of Kafka’s novels lies in their inherent resistance to illustration and, on the other hand, to substantiate the success of the resulting adaptations.
