Szilárd Borbély’s drama Az Olaszliszkai is about the case of the “lynching in Olaszliszka”. In my study, I will show how the representation of romani people appears in this text without the word Gipsy or Roma being mentioned once in the text itself. I will show how Borbély builds on the recipient’s prior experience of the stereotypical image of the Gipsy. I will then analyse and compare the representation of the Roma in the stage performance of the drama with the basic text.
