Abstract:

In November 1984, in Pécs, one of the local amateur theatre groups (Open Stage of Pécs) presented a play by István Örkény – the second in the country – which was not well received by the ruling communist party. The Forgatókönyv (Screenplay) quoted historical figures, who, in addition to the former communist state, pointed harshly to the founding of the Kádár regime and the past actions of its namesake. The local authorities intervened relatively quickly, and the play was not seen locally for a year. In my thesis I try to reconstruct what might have happened.
