Since 2018, Faktor Terminal and the Szubjektív Értékek Alapítvány (Subjective Values Foundation) have been running a socio-art project called Art-ravaló, which aims to support the personal development of disadvantaged young adults in care through artistic activities and, in the longer term, their integration into society. Through the first theatrical performance of the six-year project, And Telemachus? in 2019, and the latest theatre production, THE CIRCLE in 2024, I will analyse the different participatory, community, and space-specific theatre elements and methods. As well as focusing on the theatrical part of the nine-month project, I want to show, through Chantal Mouffe’s theory of antagonism, what artistic practices such as Art-ravaló also aim to make visible: to give voice to those who are silenced and to make visible those who are turned away from by power, by confronting the existing practice of hegemony.
