István Sándor L.’s book, titled Szabadságszigetek (Islands of Freedom) covers the history of Tamas Fodor and his companies: the Orfeo circle and Studio “K” up to 1978. The review, in addition to the book’s merits, points out its methodological shortcomings and the problematic nature of the author’s handling of sources. Although the almost 600-page book represents an inestimable value and fills a gap in the processing of the history of the Hungarian oppositional and alternative theater, the book, unfortunately, does not refer to the outcomes of the past thirty years of theater-related discourse in its analysis.
