In 1962, the Studio Theater, the modern, technically well equipped practice theater of the István Szentgyörgyi István Theater Institute opened its doors in Târgu-Mureș. The building was inaugurated on November 23. The following evening at 8:00 PM, the stage hosted a production of Tartuffe, an exam performance by the graduating acting students, directed by Lajos Kőmíves Nagy. It was recorded as an outstanding artistic event, its popular success considered to be fueled by the genre of classical comedy, the appearance of the renowned actor-professor György Kovács and the public’s curiosity for the new theater building.
