In 2019, I wrote a master’s thesis titled The Collaborative Work Between the Dramaturg and the Actor, for which I conducted interviews and a series of focus group discussions with fifty-two actors and nine dramaturgs. So far, three essays based on my research have been published. This time, I will present the unpublished sections. To make it clear how the dramaturg became a part of the rehearsal room and eventually a creative partner for the actor, it seems essential to explore the concept of the dramaturg and provide a brief overview of the development and evolution of dramaturgical work. Therefore, I begin with a theoretical review of the definition of the dramaturg, followed by a brief outline of the current state of this profession in Romania. After partially clarifying the definition of the dramaturg, specifically the production dramaturg, I will address what, based on the discussions, the actors expect from the dramaturg. Finally, I will conclude by examining what dramaturgs expect from actors.
